Description

Using the iconic Smithwick's ale cans, Leroy crafts a piece that embodies the rich, time-honoured flavour of one of Ireland's most beloved ales. Smithwick's Red Ale stands as a testament to centuries of Irish brewing tradition, evolving from its monastic origins to become one of Ireland's most cherished ales. Its rich history is not only a story of a brewery but also a narrative of Irish resilience and the enduring appeal of a well-crafted ale.

Smithwick's Brewery was founded in Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1710 by John Smithwick. It was established on the site of a Franciscan abbey where monks had brewed ale since the 14th century. The Smithwick family, despite facing religious restrictions and political challenges of the time, managed to establish and grow the brewery, passing it down through generations.

Smithwick's Red Ale is celebrated for its smooth, malty richness, complemented by a subtle hop bitterness. With notes of caramel and a slight fruity undertone, it's a beer that's both comforting and complex. It is known for its ruby red hue, derived from the use of roasted barley. It's characterised by a balanced taste profile - a blend of mild hop bitterness with sweet malt flavours.

Leroy's work has traveled from Larne to Mombasa, and now, through Allster.co, to you. Each map is a story of the love for beer and geography. Each beer can used is personally drunk by Leroy himself.
