Castlerock features a 1 mile long stretch of beach between the sea cliffs of Downhill to the west and the Lower River Bann estuary east. The beach was awarded the Seaside Award in 2020. Pictured is the 18th century Bishop of Derry's ruined palace, the Mussenden Temple on the clifftop. Interestingly C. S. Lewis, author of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, enjoyed holidays in Castlerock as a young child travelling from Belfast.
